This is the 4th year that Laughing Horse has run
shows at this venue. The is a popular local
cafe, bar, bistro and complimentary health studio. The venue has proved very popular with
audiences, with many sold out shows in this unique venue with very supportive management
and staff helping to promote shows to regulars and locas as well as tourists and
Fringe-goers..
The
venue is located in the Hillside area of Edinburgh, just off of Leith Walk, and very close
to where our former venue 'Linsay's' was located, and a few minutes walk from our
venues at The Edinburgh City Football Club and the Newsroom. It is
also in close proximity of Highlight, The Playhouse, Omni Centra and all the bars and
restaurants at the top of Leith Walk.
The venue is a modern and stylish licensed bar and cafe, with
a well decorated and quirky basement room for shows. The bar serves a wide selection of
meals and snacks, as well as a full selection drinks
To the front of the the bar is a large seating area for
outdoor dining, and relaxing between shows.
Performance Space: The Basement
Stage - 2m x 2m (at most) raised corner
stage. No wingspace or backstage. Flat floor can be used in front for additional space.
There is a separate dressing room for performers.
Seating - Capacity is 35 seats, plus
standing room for 10.
Lighting - 1xPar Can to flood the stage.
Additional Lighting can be supplied by companies and fixed as required.
Sound - The room is supplied with a 4
channel mixer, plus 2xCD Player, 2xMicrophones and 2xMic stands. Any additional sound
equipment can be supplied by performing companies and stored at the venue.
Audio Visual - There is no AV equipment in
the room, can be added by performers. Due to the size of the room it is not really suited
to projectors/screens.
Storage - There is a small area for storage
at the venue for props and equipment, shared with other groups.
Bar - There is no bar in the room, this is
available in the bar upstairs.
Please note that this is a separate room, however due to the
spiral staircase it is not completely separated from the bar upstairs, however given the
set-up of the room and that it is a venue with a cafe atmosphere, not a pub, there is very
little or no sound coming from upstairs during the shows as everyone coming to the venue
in the evenings is there for the show, and the venue manage the crowds so they do not make
any noise during performances. .
