  2009 was the first
year that Laughing Horse ran shows at the Newsroom, however the venue is an established
Fringe venue, and has had shows in the past, both paid and free shows in 2007 and 2008.
The venue is located on Broughton Street Lane, which is just behind Leith Walk, York Place
and at the top of Broughton Street - Signage is placed on the main roads to direct people
to this venue.  Nearby is a host of
other Fringe venues, and the busy Omni Complex, shops and restaurants. Nearby are free
venues at The Newsroom, Edinburgh City Football Club and Renroc, and you
are moments from Jongleurs, The Stand and the Playhouse Theatre. You are
five minutes walk from Princes street.
The venue has an attractive, modern and stylish main bar,
which serves food as well as a full selections of beers, wines and spirits. At the rear of
the venue is a walled beer garden, with seats, heaters, lights and a barbecue open all day
- an ideal spot for audiences to relax between shows.
 The performance space is on the first floor of the
venue, accessible from the main bar. The room has a great atmosphere and a lot of
character, with a low ceiling and sloped eaves - a genuine loft-like feel to it.
Performance Space: The

Stage - 3m x 1.5m corner stage, raised to 6
inches. No wingspace or backstage.
Seating - Capacity is 60 seats, plus
standing room for 20.
Lighting - 2xFixed Lights to flood the
stage. Additional Lighting can be supplied by companies and fixed as required.
Sound - The room is supplied with an 8
channel mixer (4xXLR, 4xjack, 4xPhono, 1xUSB Input). The room has 2xCD Players,
2xMicrophones and 2xMic stands. Any additional sound equipment can be supplied by
performing companies and stored at the venue. The sound is operated from a sound desk
on-stage, which is curtained off.
Audio Visual - There is a projector screen
and projector available at the venue, with perfect sight lines for any shows with
presentations.
Storage - There is very small area for
storage at the venue for props and equipment, shared with other groups.
Bar - The bar in the room is closed during
performances.
Performance Space: The Courtyard
A flexible walled courtyard area with seating, a covered
area, stage and power.
