A clown, a mime and a black-and-white minstrel rehearse a variety show in preparation for their opening night performance. As the evening draws nearer, the chance of the performers acquiring an audience becomes increasingly questionable. The director and assistant stage manager watch the final rehearsal, as the performers repeat their familiar routines. Old-fashioned variety mixed with the painful realism of the final rehearsal before the first night performance.
