An Audience with Charles Manson is a new exploration into the life and times of the American criminal who led what became known as the Manson Family, a crazy quasi commune that arose in the California desert in the late 1960s. Manson and his followers committed a series of seven murders in the summer of 1969.A British man, Charlie, shares the name of the infamous American criminal, and feels an affinity that has dangerously led him to a parallel existence. Like his American counterpart, he writes songs, questions society’s hypocrisy, and ultimately aspires to achieve a comparable cult status. This is a humorous, surreal, exploration of sanity, influence, and evil. In short, our Brit protagonist is in a Helter Skelter state of mind that may very well blow the mind of his unsuspecting audience. So, beware, all is not what it might seem! Written and performed by award-winning fringe veteran Kevin Short, the piece combines original story-telling, stand-up, music and songs, and a provocative, challenging narrative, which will feed all who are hungry for experimental work.At last year's fringe, Kevin won 5-Star reviews for his portrayal of Krapp in Samuel Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape', and has won Best New Play, Spirit of the Fringe Awards, and Total Theatre Nominations, in previous years. As a performer, he has done seasons at the Royal National Theatre, in London's West End, and even took his 'Zombie Zoo' Edinburgh show to Off-Broadway New York. As writer, his play 'The Pigsty' was awarded in Edinburgh, and three of his works have played London's West End. As filmmaker, he won Best Music Documentary at New York's Film & Video Festival for his Punk Strut-the Movie, and more recently; the UK road movie 'Bonnie & Clive', released this year, received awards for Best Film, Best Cast, Best Score. An Audience with Charles Manson is a cocktail of an entertainment which explores two men who in life or death cannot be divided. Their twin-like connection through time and space, is a frightening reality, one that must not be repeated or replicated, except in the safe environment of the Fringe. Come and join the cult!
