Eat Pray Cult is Amy Brown Carver’s stand up comedy show about leaving a traditional marriage and joining a cult. Well, not a cult exactly. It’s a group of 85 people living in the California desert as part of a seasonal, off-grid, techo-futurist protopia and decentralized intentional community. Her show is about so-called self-sufficiency, cosplaying the apocalypse, and not paying rent. It’s about druggies, hippies, tech bros. A preponderance of DJs. It’s about joining a cult, minus the weird sex, death, and sense-of-purpose stuff. Eat Pray Cult is about what makes people stay and why they walk away. It’s about trying to build a better society (and then a better better society) and learning about why society runs the way it does in the first place. It’s about hitting rock bottom and then pitching a tent.
