Although he is a South Korean citizen, he does not specifically identify with any particular country among the places he has lived - England, Turkey, or Germany - and in his return, feels constricted by the societal norms in a rapidly modernizing South Korea. What is the price that society pays for work-based culture? He is torn apart, then turns to alcohol, only to find himself diagnosed with brain cancer in 2012. How does a society only fixed on development and work treat and care for its ill?? What does overcoming cancer really mean?
