9/11 Birds and the Bees is a solo dark stand-up comedy hour that weaves together a goofy and absurdist narrative around growing up in NYC during and after 9/11. Based in downtown NY on September 11th, and dubbed an official “survivor” of the attacks, Sofia May takes the audience through the extremely unique experience of being a child survivor of 9/11. Within the trauma and the grief, shines exquisite irony, particularly in the healing process, which the solo explores comedic bit by bit. From competitive trauma for the best 9/11 story world wide, to being placed in the absurd "9/11 Therapy" by the city of NY after the attacks, to processing the trauma of my inner child as an adult, to indulging in all the glamorous survivor benefits, this solo is a love letter to the World Trade Center and everyone who needs the relief of laughter from their endless heartache around the tragedy. Though the narrative focal point is surviving 9/11, there are also many whimsical vignettes that joke about other dark topics with a delightful air of innocence and cartoonish charisma. This is the narrative of how surviving 9/11 turned an innocent baby into an innocently twisted comedian.
