I’m a 27-year-old from a rural border region of Ireland called, County Cavan. My show is about growing up in the rural border region of the Republic of Ireland; 15 minutes away from the Border with the North. An often forgotten about part of Ireland, not serviced by any trains and often overlooked as an irrelevant region. A once heavy paramilitary and smuggling area, this has all but died down now, apart from the occasional incident.
This made for an interesting upbringing, growing up on Cavan farms then eventually leaving to study at University in Dublin, where my accent would instantly be picked up and I’d be referred to as a ‘culchie’ or ‘bogger’. Moving up to Dublin led to a stark contrast in surroundings, which I tend to lean into and joke about on stage.
My very much traditional Irish Catholic upbringing mixed with the liberal swing in Ireland in the mid 2000s is good fun to discuss and dive into on stage!
